Purpose of Heavy Lift Cranes

What is a heavy lift crane?

A heavy lift crane is a sizeable piece of equipment, designed to lift and carry large objects or loads. A heavy lift crane is categorized based on its lifting capabilities, for example a 550T mobile crane has the capability of lifting 165T at a radius of 10 meters and, has many additional components to cater for different lift requirements whether it be height, weight, or reach that is required. Believe it or not, a heavy lift crane is so large that it requires another crane to build it!

What are heavy lift cranes used for?

You might be wondering, where are heavy lift cranes used? The answer is quite simple, everywhere. Industries across Africa and the globe make use of heavy lift cranes such as mining, renewable energy, oil and gas, construction, port works, marine, steel works and even in the automobile sector.

Heavy Lifting Equipment

What are the different types of heavy lift cranes to hire?

There are different kinds of heavy lifting cranes from different brands and a vast range of capabilities for specific projects. Our heavy-lift fleet is representative of market-leading international brands such as Liebherr cranes and Terex cranes.

Our range of heavy lift cranes:

  • Terex AC 500-2
  • Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1
  • Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1

Liebherr Cranes

In our Liebherr range of heavy lift cranes, we offer two high-quality crane types from the German brand. All have been designed with state-of-the-art technology and a host of features and benefits that are world-class. We proudly stock Liebherr cranes because of their innovative designs and unmatched capabilities.

Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1

  • Max load capacity – 750T
  • Telescopic boom – 52m
  • Max hoist height – 154m
  • Max radius – 112m
  • Number of axles – 9

The key feature of the 9-axle LTM 1750-9.1 is that it can carry its entire telescopic boom on public roads. Its high load capacities and variable boom systems enable it to cover a wide range of applications. In terms of its construction, this Liebherr mobile crane is designed for particularly short set-up times.

Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1

  • Max load capacity – 440T
  • Telescopic boom – 60m
  • Max hoist height – 130m
  • Max radius – 100m
  • Number of axles – 7

The seven-axle LTM 1400-7.1 mobile crane is one of the most compact representatives of its class and extraordinarily maneuverable thanks to its active rear-axle steering. The ballast radius can be significantly reduced for use in constricted areas by moving the counterweight.

Terex Cranes

Terex cranes are well known in the industry as hard-working, reliable and efficient. That is why we chose to stock the AC-500-2 mobile crane as part of our heavy lift division. Both are efficient machines designed to go anywhere and pick up anything – tough and ready workhorses for sure.

Terex AC 500-2

  • Max load capacity – 500T
  • Telescopic boom – 56m
  • Max hoist height – 130m
  • Max radius – 10T at 60m
  • Number of axles – 8

The Terex Ac 500-2 offers the highest lifting capacities in the Terex range on 8 axles. It offers SSL-Technology which stands for Sideways Superlift technology for additional increase in lifting capacity, making this one piece of heavy lift machinery. With a 56m telescopic boom, this crane offers the longest system length in the 500-ton class that can travel at a 12 ton axle load.  Its state-of-the-art, powerful drive technology provides a high performance and cost-efficient operation on the road as well as on site. This crane can be set up in a speedily manner and can offer increased stiffness and minimum deformation thanks to the star-type outriggers.
